Spring has sprung and it’s the perfect time to give vehicles a good spring clean – and nothing beats a professional valeting service. At DNA Insurance, we understand the hard work that goes into running a car valeting business and we’re here to help support you in any way we can. So now that longer sunny days are just round the corner, let’s take a look at some top tips for keeping your business running smoothly this season, from the tools you need to your car valeting insurance.

Get ready for the rush

All businesses are different, but as a valet, you may find spring and summer to be pretty busy. Whether it’s the longer sunnier days bringing out more of your customers’ treasured sports or classic cars to clean or it’s the higher levels of pollen in the air coating your customers’ vehicles, make sure you’re ready for a potential surge in numbers.

Inside, cars may well end up covered in mud, pet hair and picnic crumbs from family days out, while insects on windscreens, birds using your vehicle as target practice (you know what we mean) and stronger UV rays are all factors which could drive customers to your business to keep their motors looking smart.

Keep your tools tip top

The tools of your trade are vital. So as you get ready for a new season, make sure they’re in the best condition they can be. Take a moment to go through your kit and see if anything needs to be upgraded, replaced or refreshed. Think about the different types of dirt and muck you get in the spring and summer – for example, do you have enough tar and bug remover? Are your hard brushes clean and ready? If you run a team, does everyone have enough equipment and are your tools safely stored when they’re not used?

Remember, if you need any support, our vehicle valeting insurance can cover your tools too – just ask one of our friendly team.

Practice makes perfect

As you know, it takes time and dedication to be a good quality valet. You will have learned how to use the right techniques to clean vehicles to achieve the best results, whether it’s avoiding micro scratches on a car’s paintwork to making sure there are no swirl marks where you’ve been washing and polishing.

Give yourself enough time with your customers’ cars to make sure they’re pristine. Remember that warmer weather can mean quicker drying times for shampoo while particles of mud and grit are present all year round, so keep your specialist waxes and finishes to hand.

Keep busy during downtime

If there’s anything we know about the weather in the UK, it’s that it can be unpredictable. If this spring turns into a washout and rainy days are keeping customers from your doors, take the chance to have your own spring clean. Why not catch up on maintenance tasks for your premises? Take the time to tidy your equipment and tools so they’re ready and waiting when things get busy again.

Maybe you could have a think about your marketing to attract new customers. You know that you’re always going to do a better job than a customer washing their own car at home, so how about offering a seasonal discount to get people trying your business? Designing up some posters or flyers will keep you busy for a rainy day and could mean more customers in the long run.
